Argos get 8th win of the season
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The offense kept rolling in No. 20 West Florida’s 5-2 win over NAIA opponent Mobile in non-conference women’s soccer action at the UWF Soccer Complex on Tuesday night.  Sophomore Jodi-Ann Robinson (Richmond, British Columbia/Palmer Secondary School) notched her third multi-goal performance over the last four games and extended her team lead to 14 goals this year.

UWF (8-2) saw four different players score, as senior Shakira Duncan (Kingston, Jamaica/Darton) scored her 11th of the year and junior Jordan Stone (Fort Walton Beach, Fla./Fort Walton Beach HS) and sophomore Tori Fish (Bellaire, Texas/Bellaire HS) each scored their second of the season.

Fish put the Argonauts on the board first, scoring off a rebound of a shot by Duncan in the 11th minute.  Duncan picked up a second assist on the team’s second goal at the 29:46 mark, as she crossed the ball inside to Robinson open for her first goal of the day.  Mobile (5-4-1) scored their first of the night with seven minutes left in the first half when Kassie Ruff controlled the ball off a failed clearance and scored inside the left post.

After halftime, the Argos got back on track when Robinson drew a foul in the box, leading to a penalty kick goal by Stone at the 58:05 mark.  Robinson then scored her second of the game in the 66th minute off an assist by freshman Kaitlyn Kutemeyer (Fort Walton Beach, Fla./Choctawhatchee HS).  After a goal by Mobile’s Brianna Simmons in the 76th minute, UWF fired back with Duncan’s goal at the 87:57 mark after the senior dribbled through multiple Rams defenders.

UWF finished the night with a 17-10 shot advantage, and junior Ali Ryan (Batemans Bay, Australia/Darton) made four saves in goal for the Argos.  Mobile goalkeeper Lorna Brownlie stopped six shots on goal from the Argonauts.

The Argos will return to Gulf South Conference play to face Christian Brothers at Brosnaham Park on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 12:30 p.m.  For information on all UWF Athletics, visit www.GoArgos.com.
